The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stepped up vigilance across the country’s airports following the confirmation of an Ebola Virus Disease case in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The authority, in a statement signed by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, said it was working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and other relevant agencies to support efforts to contain the disease.

FAAN said the early detection of the case and the commencement of contact tracing highlighted the importance of effective disease surveillance and cooperation among public health agencies.

The authority noted that it would continue to monitor developments at airports and work with health officials to implement any additional measures considered necessary to protect passengers, airport workers and the public.

It also urged passengers, airlines, airport users and other stakeholders to remain calm, vigilant and cooperative with health officials as efforts to contain the outbreak continue.

FAAN advised the public to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could cause unnecessary panic.

The authority assured travellers that it remained committed to working with relevant agencies to safeguard public health while ensuring the safe operation of Nigeria’s airports.
