Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), has been honoured with the “Most Fire-Free Public Facility” award by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service in recognition of the terminal’s outstanding commitment to fire prevention, emergency preparedness and safety management.
The award was presented at the recently concluded Lagos International Fire Safety Conference 3.0 and recognises public facilities that have demonstrated exceptional standards in fire safety management, risk prevention and emergency response systems.

The recognition further reinforces MMA2’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s safest airport terminals, with the facility maintaining a strong safety culture, strict compliance with aviation safety standards and continuous investment in modern fire protection infrastructure.
Operated by BASL under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement, MMA2 has consistently prioritised the safety of passengers, airlines, concessionaires, employees and other terminal users through proactive risk management and operational excellence.
The terminal is equipped with modern fire detection and suppression systems, trained emergency response personnel and comprehensive safety protocols designed to prevent fire incidents while ensuring swift response whenever emergencies arise.
Its safety framework also includes regular maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, periodic safety audits, emergency simulation exercises and continuous staff training aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness and operational resilience.
Reacting to the award, the Acting Chief Operating Officer and Head of Space and Premises Management at BASL, Mr. Kola Bamigboye, described the recognition as a validation of the company’s sustained investment in safety infrastructure and operational excellence.
“This recognition is a proud moment for BASL and a testament to our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety across every aspect of our operations,” Bamigboye said.
“At MMA2, safety is embedded in our culture and guides every operational decision we make. We have consistently invested in modern fire prevention systems, facility maintenance, staff development and emergency preparedness to ensure that everyone who passes through our terminal enjoys a safe and secure environment.
“We appreciate the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for this recognition and remain committed to continuously raising the bar in safety and operational excellence.”
Also speaking, BASL’s Head of Aviation Safety, Mrs. Nafisat Adeniran, said the award reflects the effectiveness of the company’s proactive safety management systems and the commitment of every department to preventing emergencies before they occur.
“Receiving the ‘Most Fire-Free Public Facility’ award reflects the dedication of our Aviation Safety team and the collective commitment of every department within BASL to preventing incidents before they occur,” she said.
“Safety is achieved through vigilance, compliance, regular training, risk assessments, emergency drills and a culture where everyone understands their responsibility. This recognition reinforces our resolve to continually strengthen our safety management systems, embrace global best practices and ensure that MMA2 remains one of Nigeria’s safest and most resilient airport terminals.”
BASL reaffirmed that safety remains the foundation of its operations, noting that the award serves as both an honour and a renewed responsibility to continue setting high standards in safety, innovation and operational excellence across Nigeria’s aviation industry.
The company dedicated the recognition to its employees, airline partners, concessionaires, regulatory agencies and other stakeholders whose contributions have helped sustain the terminal’s impressive safety record.
As Nigeria’s first major airport terminal developed under a PPP arrangement, BASL said it remains committed to delivering world-class airport services through innovation, customer-focused service delivery and uncompromising adherence to safety standards.
