Turkish Airlines and Air Peace have formalised a bilateral Special Prorate Agreement (SPA) interline partnership, a move set to significantly deepen air connectivity between Nigeria, West and Central Africa, and the wider world.

Announced on April 16, 2026, in Istanbul and Lagos, the agreement brings together Turkish Airlines, globally renowned for flying to more countries than any other carrier, and Air Peace, West Africa’s largest airline, in a collaboration designed to simplify international travel and unlock new economic opportunities.

At the heart of the deal is a seamless travel experience.

Passengers on both airlines can now book single-ticket itineraries across multiple routes, enjoy better-coordinated schedules, and benefit from streamlined baggage transfers, removing much of the friction traditionally associated with multi-leg international journeys.

The partnership effectively turns Lagos into a more powerful transit gateway.

Turkish Airlines passengers arriving in Nigeria’s commercial hub can now connect effortlessly into Air Peace’s extensive domestic and regional network, which spans key cities across Nigeria and West Africa.

In reverse, Air Peace passengers gain smooth access to Turkish Airlines’ vast global route map via Istanbul, one of the world’s most strategic aviation hubs, linking to destinations across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.

Beyond convenience, the agreement is expected to reshape travel and trade flows.

By tightening links between Africa and global markets, both airlines are positioning themselves to capture rising passenger demand, boost tourism, and facilitate business travel across continents.

Speaking on the development, Dr. Özlem Özyön, Senior Vice President, International Relations and Alliances at Turkish Airlines, underscored the strategic importance of the African market.

“This interline agreement with Air Peace reinforces our commitment to expanding connectivity across Africa,” she said.

“By combining Turkish Airlines’ global reach with Air Peace’s strong regional presence, we are generating more travel options, improved convenience, and greater accessibility for our passengers.”

For Air Peace, the deal aligns squarely with its long-term ambition to place Nigeria at the centre of global aviation flows.

The airline has, in recent years, expanded aggressively across domestic and international routes, positioning itself as a critical bridge between Africa and the rest of the world.

Nowel Ngala, Chief Commercial Officer of Air Peace, described the agreement as a milestone in that journey.

“This partnership with Turkish Airlines is another important milestone in Air Peace’s strategy to position Africa and particularly Nigeria at the center of global connectivity,” he said.

“By integrating our robust domestic and regional network with Turkish Airlines’ unparalleled international reach, we are offering our customers seamless connections, reduced travel complexity, and greater choice, while strengthening Nigeria’s role as a key aviation gateway.”

Operationally, both airlines bring complementary strengths to the table.

Turkish Airlines deploys modern widebody aircraft on its Lagos route, offering passengers a premium onboard experience defined by award-winning catering, high service standards, and advanced inflight entertainment.

Its Istanbul hub, widely regarded as one of the most efficient in the world, provides access to one of aviation’s most expansive global networks.

Air Peace, on its part, continues to consolidate its footprint with a growing fleet of over 50 aircraft, including Boeing 777s, Boeing 737s, and Embraer jets.

The airline’s expanding route network has made it a key player in connecting underserved markets across Nigeria and the wider African region, while also supporting trade, tourism, and regional integration.

Industry observers say the timing of the agreement is significant. As global travel rebounds and airlines seek smarter partnerships to extend their reach without heavy capital investment, interline and codeshare arrangements are becoming critical tools for growth, particularly in emerging markets like Africa.

For passengers, the immediate impact is clear: fewer booking hurdles, smoother connections, and broader travel options.

For Nigeria and the region, the implications run deeper, enhanced global access, increased passenger traffic, and stronger positioning within the international aviation ecosystem.

Tickets under the new interline arrangement are already available through the airlines’ official booking platforms and IATA-accredited travel agents, marking the beginning of what both carriers see as a long-term strategic alliance.

As the aviation landscape continues to evolve, the Air Peace–Turkish Airlines partnership signals a decisive step toward a more connected Africa, one where regional strength and global reach work hand in hand.
