Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has introduced a pilot programme aimed at improving the safety and comfort of passengers with reduced mobility through the acquisition of EVAC+CHAIR emergency evacuation chairs.
The company said the investment makes SAHCO the first aviation ground handling company in Nigeria to deploy the specialised mobility equipment, reinforcing its commitment to inclusive service delivery and global safety standards.
The EVAC+CHAIR, widely recognised as one of the world’s leading stairway evacuation chairs, is designed to safely move passengers with reduced mobility during emergencies or when boarding and disembarking aircraft via stairways.
Equipped with a gravity and friction control system, the chair allows trained personnel to move passengers up and down stairs without heavy lifting, reducing physical strain while ensuring passenger safety and comfort.
The equipment also features secure harnesses, durable rubber tracks and an ergonomic design that enables operators to assist passengers who cannot move independently, making aircraft boarding, disembarkation and emergency evacuation more efficient.

According to the company, the latest investment builds on its track record of adopting cutting-edge aviation technologies.
In 2025, SAHCO became the first ground handling company in Nigeria to acquire the Rapiscan Itemiser 5X, an advanced Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) system recommended by the U.S.
Transportation Security Administration (TSA). The technology is capable of detecting a wide range of explosives and narcotics, significantly enhancing aviation security screening.
SAHCO said its sustained investments in modern ground support equipment, advanced technology, staff training and internationally recognised safety standards have enabled it to maintain high operational efficiency while improving the passenger experience.
The company noted that it currently operates across all commercially operated airports in Nigeria, providing airlines with a nationwide ground handling network that supports route expansion while ensuring consistent safety, efficiency and service quality.
