…Says film’s message of democracy, unity aligns with its mission of connecting Nigerians

As Nigerians prepare to celebrate Democracy Day on June 12, United Nigeria Airlines has thrown its weight behind Kalakiri, a new Nigerian movie centered on democracy, national unity and social cohesion, while offering moviegoers a chance to win free flight tickets and travel discounts.

The airline said its decision to partner with the film was driven by the movie’s strong message of unity and its relevance to the significance of Democracy Day, which commemorates Nigeria’s democratic journey and the sacrifices made in the struggle for civil rule.

Under the partnership, cinema audiences who watch Kalakiri on June 12 will be entered into a special raffle draw.

The star prize is a return premium class ticket to any destination within the airline’s domestic network, while the second prize winner will receive a return economy class ticket.

In addition, all moviegoers who watch the film and present their cinema tickets will be entitled to a 10 per cent discount on any United Nigeria Airlines ticket purchase.

Speaking on the initiative, the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer, Dayo Olawuyi, said the partnership reflects the carrier’s commitment to promoting national unity and celebrating the values underpinning Nigeria’s democracy.

“June 12 is a reminder of the sacrifices made for the freedom and unity we enjoy today. Supporting Kalakiri is our way of honouring that legacy. As an airline that connects every corner of this nation and unites people of all tribes, we believe strongly in the power of storytelling to reinforce what holds us together as a people. This film does exactly that, and we are proud to stand behind it,” Olawuyi said.

According to him, aviation and the creative industry share a common objective of bringing people together and strengthening social bonds across communities.

Also speaking, the airline’s Marketing Manager, Ebele Nebolisa-Mokaogwu, said the partnership was a natural fit because both the airline and the movie seek to promote national integration.

“We also fly to unite cultures and unite people, and we see that this aligns with us, where the film is trying to unite Nigerians through democracy,” she said.

Industry observers say the collaboration highlights growing partnerships between corporate organisations and Nigeria’s creative sector, with brands increasingly using films and cultural productions to engage audiences and promote social values.

United Nigeria Airlines, one of the country’s leading indigenous carriers, has built its brand around connecting cities and communities across Nigeria.

The airline said supporting Kalakiri is consistent with its broader mission of fostering national cohesion while rewarding customers during the Democracy Day celebrations.

Kalakiri is currently showing in cinemas nationwide and is expected to attract audiences with its themes of democracy, patriotism and national unity.

The promotional campaign is expected to drive cinema attendance while giving Nigerians an opportunity to celebrate the June 12 holiday with entertainment and travel rewards.
