Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) Plc has strengthened its position in Nigeria’s aviation value chain, emerging as the sole ground handling service provider at the commissioning of the newly completed Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State.
The airport was officially inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and heralds a major milestone in Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure drive and positioning Ogun State as an emerging hub for passenger and cargo traffic.

SAHCO’s exclusive role at the facility underscores its growing reputation for operational efficiency, safety compliance, and international-standard service delivery across Nigeria’s airports.
Chairman of SAHCO, Barr. Dr. Taiwo Afolabi (CON), described the development as both strategic and symbolic, noting that the appointment reflects strong confidence in the company’s capabilities.
“This milestone further reinforces SAHCO’s commitment to supporting the growth of Nigeria’s aviation sector through continuous investment in modern equipment, skilled personnel, and innovative service solutions,” he said.
“Being selected as the sole ground handler at such a landmark event highlights our readiness to deliver seamless operations at new and existing airports nationwide.”
He added that SAHCO, in partnership with Allied Air—Nigeria’s indigenous cargo airline—was well positioned to deepen cargo efficiency at the new airport.
According to him, the collaboration will enhance seamless processing of time-sensitive and high-value goods through a modern warehouse complex designed for both import and export operations.
The initiative, he said, is expected to significantly boost capacity in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, and e-commerce, while improving turnaround time for cargo movement within the region.
During the commissioning exercise, SAHCO provided full-spectrum ground handling services, including ramp operations, passenger facilitation, cargo handling, and overall operational support, ensuring smooth coordination of airport activities.
The Gateway International Airport is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic expansion in Ogun State and its surrounding regions.
With improved connectivity, the facility is projected to stimulate trade flows, attract investment, and unlock new opportunities across logistics and allied industries.
Industry stakeholders say the presence of a single, experienced ground handling operator from inception is critical to establishing operational discipline and service consistency at new airports.
With its role at the Ogun airport, SAHCO continues to consolidate its footprint in Nigeria’s aviation sector, reinforcing its long-standing commitment to efficiency, innovation, and service excellence.
As Nigeria’s air transport industry expands, the company says it remains focused on strengthening operational capacity and contributing to the broader development of the country’s aviation ecosystem.
